Actually this is an easy prediction. Apple has already become No. 1 in the personal computer market. A few years ago people thought Apple would die because their operating system was so much different from Microsoft Windows. Since then, Microsoft has in moved on to better products. But in spite of that, Apple has moved to the No. 1 position with little help from Microsoft. Yes, Microsoft has worked with Apple on some things and help keep Apple going for a while. But that is beside the point. The factual truth is that now Apple is No. 1 in personal computer sales and has a very large share of the current market. Of course, the market is divided the amount among at least ten principle players.
But is it fair to compare a hardware manufacturer to a software producer? Yes, because both Apple and Microsoft are involved in both parts of the personal computer business. Both have interest in software and hardware.
Apple’s move to the No. 1 position because of the Apple iPhone sales. Microsoft has recently got into the smart phone business by introducing versions of Windows that will work on smart phone’s which compete with the Apple iPhone.
The statistics there ate in for prior sales year, that is to say the year 2010. The results for 2011 may not be available until sometime this spring. Likely the results will again show Apple and No. 1 and far ahead of anybody else.
Microsoft has teamed up with Nokia, which has been the No. 1 cell foam vendor in previous years. Really, the alliance with Microsoft probably will hurt more than help. People just to not like Windows on smart phone. Bad news for Nokia.
Here is one source for this:
Why Nokia is Losing Ground to Apple and Android.
The story above is old. Recent statistics show Nokia lost the number 1 sport to Apple.
Everybody has heard about the SOPA issue. The president of the US said he would not support it. So some headlines not read ‘SOPA is Dead.’ The is not altogether true. The bill can be revised and approved again and next time may become law..
The point being overlooked is very simple. Money. Who0 will gain or lose the most.? Granted, many file sharing web sites are in violation of the Copyright laws. But the blatant file-sharing web sites make a lot of money for the owners. A lot of money.
Surely I am not the only one that things Hollywood needs ton direct their attention to other sways of protecting their works. Let’s take for an sample 3-D movies.
At the present time the is no way the impact of a 3D movie is a big screen theater filled with a live audience can be reproduced in a poor copy of the movie on a home computer. It is not the same experience. The medium is the message. The studios need to produce top quality files that people are willing to patronize..
The laws that already exist do help control copyright violation. They need to be enforced. Telling people something is free went nit is not is fraud. That is a crime. The file-sharing websites are telling people they may download copyrighted movies and TV shows. Not true. Those sites deserve to be shut down.
Although SOPA is not now law, piracy of others people’s property still is a crime.
The sales of hard disk drives may appear to be slowing down. New consumer devices now use Solid State storage instead of mechanical Hard drives. But for storage of huge amounts of data, the hard drive industry will still be here even years from now.
New developments make it posible to store much more data into a spall space using a combination of mechanical and rootlet-magnetic technology. But you can not yet buy the newest thing. It is still in the early stage. Here is a Link:
Sometime in the future, you could have enough mass-storage in your home to hold all the books of a local library and maybe more. But would you ever read them?
